The Environment and Energy Awards
The annual Environment and Energy Awards recognise and celebrate excellence, innovation and best practice within the energy industry and serve as a tribute to the winners' professionalism and commitment.
The EI is responsible for judging six of the categories in which winners are announced and awards presented at the The Environment and Energy Awards Gala dinner, held during the Sustainabilitylive! conference and exhibition incorporating NEMEX, IWEX, ET, BEX and SB-The Event in Birmingham.

The ESTA Energy Manager of the Year Award
The Energy Manager of the Year Award recognises and encourages the role of those working in the energy management profession, acknowledging both individual achievements in efficient energy practice in the workplace, as well as the vital contribution the profession as a whole must make in achieving the UK CO2 reduction targets. The 2011 winner of the eleventh EMYA was Paul Moran, Estates and Facilities Manager, Harper Adams University College for pushing the boundaries of being an Energy Manager. He introduced and energy reduction system which best suited the organisation he was managing. A Highly Commended also went to Louise Hall of Asda and Mervyn Bowden of Marks & Spencer.
NEMEX Renewables Innovation Award
The Renewables Innovation Award was introduced in 2006 to reward the individual or organisation demonstrating that has shown the most innovative approach towards the installation of a small scale, embedded renewable system. Such a system is defined as one installed on the owner’s site or incorporated as part of an organisation’s buildings. The 2011 recipients were Birmingham Energy Savers for showing the breadth of their vision looking at the economical, social and technical aspects of the service they offer.
The Energy Product/Service Award
The Renewable Energy Project was both judged and sponsored by the EI. The winning submission will be an innovative product or service that can demonstrably offer significant energy saving benefits as a function of the use of the product or service. The winner in 2011 was Pudsey Diamond Engineering for their innovative product that incorporates robust engineering with a stand alone solar energy system.
The SME Award for Energy Efficency
This award is aimed at SME organisations that recognise the importance and value of good energy efficiency but have limited resources and manpower to do so. The 2011 recipient of the award was Best Western Moor Hall Hotel & Spa for engaging with their staff across the company to improve their energy efficient, in a situation where the business is working at full capacity.
Best Energy Efficient Refurbishment Award
This award looks at refurbishment projects in large commercial and industrial buildings. It recognises entries from both organisations and individuals that demonstrate innovative techniques used to ensure a refurbishment project is carried out the most energy efficient way, providing significant savings compared to previous energy usage. The 2011 winner was Beech Properties as they have shown a good example of an approach with potential widespread application that is not limited by location.
Best Energy Supplier Customer Service Award
Every company talks about how important customer service is, but who is actually delivering a good level of customer service to their customers? Do you as a company, understand your customers' needs and deliver an industry-leading customer service? The 2011 recipients were Ecotricity, the judges liked Ecotricity’s approach, which dropped the script and focused on resolving the root causes of complaints.
