HM 50. Guidelines for the cleaning of tanks and lines for marine tank vessels carrying petroleum and refined products

This publication provides guidance on the cleaning and washing of tanks on board petroleum tank vessels, particularly when carrying refined products and changing from one product to another. It also includes a number of updates to acknowledge additional experience gained since publication of the first edition in 2009.

The document covers a range of products and stocks, including black, white, crude and vegetable oils, and it specifically addresses recent concerns relating to the contamination of aviation fuel (kerosene or avgas) with biofuel (FAME or ethanol).

This document will assist anyone with a responsibility for, or interest in, the cleaning of petroleum carrying marine tank vessels and fuel quality.
