Energy Management
Welcome to the EI Special Interest Group on Energy Management. The group is open to all, from those with a general interest in the subject to professional practitioners, architects, contractors, designers, surveyors, researchers and students. It provides a single platform to access information on this topic and a forum for discussion, which non EI members can access via guest registration (logged-in EI members are automatically able to post on the forum)
Through this microsite, you will be able to:
- Find a wide range of reference material on the issue
- Find out about relevant events, conferences and training courses
- Keep abreast of the latest developments in the field
- Engage with the energy community and professional practitioners
- Access expert support for your research activities from the EI's professional librarians.
Welcome overview from Professor Tony Day, CEng FEI:
The UK has set in law a target to reduce CO2 emissions by 80% (from a 1990 baseline) by 2050. Emissions from buildings account for around 45% of the UK total and it is increasingly evident that large savings can be made through effective energy management.
New buildings are being designed to more stringent standards through both Part L of the Building Regulations, and through local and regional planning requirements. However, as more than 90% of the current building stock will exist in 2050, it is clear that energy use in these buildings must be fully addressed.
There are a number of drivers that will highlight this need such as the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme and the Energy Performance of Buildings Regulations. New energy management standards such as BS EN 16001 and the forthcoming ISO 50001 will help, but it is imperative that energy management is given a high priority.Professor Day is Director of the Centre for Efficient and Renewable Energy in Buildings (CEREB) at London South Bank University.
