Sir Frank Chapman receives Cadman Award for outstanding services to the petroleum industry
Sir Frank Chapman FEI, Chief Executive, BG Group, has been presented with the Energy Institute's prestigious Cadman Award for outstanding services to the petroleum industry.
The Cadman Award is made on an international basis and commemorates the late Lord Cadman of Silverdale, Chairman of the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (now BP), and Past President of the Energy Institute.
The award, sponsored this year by ABB Consulting, was presented at a lecture delivered by Sir Frank on ‘The continuing evolution of the energy industry’.
Ms Joan MacNaughton CB HonFEI, President, Energy Institute (EI), said: ‘Sir Frank’s masterly exposition of the development of the LNG industry and the prospects for its future evolution encapsulates the talent and commitment that exists in this industry. The innovation which is needed to respond to growing global energy demand will depend on the sort of expertise and passion he demonstrated in the Cadman lecture.’
Sir Frank Chapman, Chief Executive, BG Group, said: ‘It is a real honour and a privilege to receive this year’s Cadman Award which I would like to accept on behalf of all those I have worked with during my career in the oil and gas industry. Nothing of what has been accomplished would have been possible without their skill, enthusiasm and commitment.’
Sir Frank added: ‘I am proud to work in an industry that is in the vanguard of innovation, an industry that continues to evolve, adapt and overcome the challenges that it encounters and one that benefits societies across the globe.’
Sir Frank Chapman has worked in the oil and gas industry for 38 years and has been involved in the leadership of major international upstream and downstream oil and gas businesses.
Having spent 22 years with the Royal Dutch/Shell Group and BP, he joined the British Gas Group in November 1996 as Managing Director, Exploration and Production (E&P), and was appointed to the BG plc Board following the demerger of Centrica in 1997. He became Chief Executive of BG Group plc in October 2000 with responsibility for the overall management, strategy and day-to-day running of the business covering the Group’s extensive upstream and downstream activities in more than 25 countries.
In 2011, Sir Frank was awarded a knighthood in the Queen's Birthday Honours List 2011 for his services to the oil and gas industries.
