Membership grades

At the Energy Institute, we pride ourselves on having a very wide range of membership grades and registration opportunities available, whatever your background, qualifications and experience. We subdivide them into pre-professional and professional grades.

Pre-professional grades

Affiliate membership  for anyone who has an interest in Energy. It's quick and easy to join, there is no validation of qualification and experience and you can join and pay online.

Student membership  for anyone following an energy course at a recognised Higher Education establishment

Graduate membership for recent graduates who have joined an energy company and are part of a graduate training and development scheme with that company

There is the opportunity for those who qualify to progress to a professional grade of membership with a registration opportunity to fit your energy specialism

Professional grades

These are for energy professionals who have upwards, typically, of 5 years postgraduate experience and who are currently in a responsible energy role. Our professional membership grades are FEI (Fellow), MEI (Member), TMEI (Technician Member). If you are an engineer, FEI and MEI are available with CEng or IEng registration with the Engineering Council, together with our own Chartered titles of Chartered Energy Engineer/Chartered Petroleum Engineer. TMEI is a professional membership grade for Technicians and is available with Engineering Council EngTech registration.

If you are a practising scientist, we can offer CSci registration with the Science Council.

IIf you work in sustainable development, we can offer you Chartered Environmentalist as a registrant of the Society for the Environment

And if you are an Energy Manager, why not apply for our new title  of Chartered Energy Manager, which is unique to the EI and not obtainable anywhere else?
