JOB TITLE: UX/UI Designer
DEPARTMENT: Digital Transformation
REPORTS TO: Head of Digital Transformation
JOB PURPOSE: To conduct research, identify problems, develop workflows, and create and user-test new solutions and design elements to enhance the EI’s customer and member experience at multiple touchpoints.
To support the Digital Transformation team in fulfilment of the EI’s business objectives.
Permanent - Salary up to £35K pa plus benefits
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Working closely with staff members within the EI Teams and stakeholders to:
- Conduct user research to develop a deep understanding of our customer and member’ requirements, behaviours, and needs. Plan and conduct interviews, user surveys, card sorting and usability tests
- Develop user personas and map out user and member journeys through research and workshops
- Evaluate, test and optimise the existing design of products, services and applications
- Produce high-quality UX design solutions through wireframes, visual and graphic designs, flow diagrams, storyboards, site maps, and prototypes.
- Ensure that product designs meet user needs, support business goals, and are technically feasible.
- Design UI elements and tools such as navigation menus, search boxes, tabs, banners, page layouts, page flows and widgets for our digital assets.
- Work closely with the Digital Transformation team to plan, review and problem-solve issues that arise when developing websites or digital products/services
Nature and Scope
We are looking for a dynamic UI/UX designer who will be responsible for the user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design of our various digital assets. You will ensure that all elements of the online user experience are optimized for improved usability, usefulness, and exceptional visual design. You’ll develop end-to-end designs for new and existing digital products, working with colleagues across the organisation with an agile, iterative, user-centred approach. Working across all stages of the user journey, you will be involved in everything from research and prototyping through to finished designs.
Delivering digital solutions, you will seek to understand user and member needs, optimise user journeys through our websites and forms, develop design recommendations and iterate designs based on user and usability testing and feedback.
You’ll communicate the benefits of user centred design across the organisation, and have the confidence to work with external stakeholders and internal teams to deliver solutions
You will be expected to meet your individual key performance indicators and maintain standards and objectives for the team in line with organisational values. You will utilise your expertise to effectively support and contribute to the implementation and development of the EI work programme.

You will actively participate in appraisals, team meetings, and meeting your self-development needs.
You will undertake any other duties necessary to this post as delegated by the Head of Digital Development.
Key Skills
- Deep understanding of key UI/UX principles, processes and methodologies
- Excellent skills in Adobe Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat and Adobe XD (or Figma) to produce user flows, sketches, wireframes, UI mock-ups, and interactive prototypes as appropriate
- Knowledge of a variety of user research and testing methodologies, and the ability to apply these appropriately: experience moderating UX research sessions, designing AB tests, etc.
- An ability to gather and evaluate user requirements, create user personas and map out user journeys
- Experience of fluid layouts and Responsive Web Design
- An outstanding eye for design and typography in line with internal branding guidelines
- Minimum of 3 years UI/UX design experience for digital products or services.
- A strong digital portfolio that demonstrates design experience covering User Research, User Experience (UX), and User Interface Design (UI).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate your thinking and design decisions, and take people on the journey with you.
Desirable skills
- Experience with HTML5 & CSS3
- Jira, Trello or other project management tools
- Comfortable leading design end-to-end, from ideation through to development
- Experience in concept ideation and design strategy
- Willingness to introduce new approaches and industry and technology trends to the team as and when appropriate
- Design thinking
- Understanding of business metrics and the ability to translate company goals and objectives into digital experiences
