Finding a mentor

If you are working towards professional membership or chartership, a mentor can be hugely valuable in helping you on your journey. Ideally, you should look for a mentor that already holds the same chartered title or professional grade that you are working towards. For example if you wish to become a chartered engineer, find a mentor that is already a CEng.

There are a number of ways in which you can find a mentor:

Through your work – your organisation may have a mentoring system in place or you could approach a senior colleague yourself.

Through networking – you may be able to find a mentor through the recommendation of a colleague or by attending events such as EI local branch events.
