Sponsor Judge - Innovation Award
Managing Partner, Palmer International LLP
Nick started as a Process Engineer with Bechtel in London, working on LPG recovery Gas Projects and also LNG Projects in Algeria, Middle East and Indonesia.
Having always been interested in Oil Refining, Nick moved to a consulting company, KBC, where he worked in profit improvement and project development for refining companies worldwide.
Following several conceptual studies for new refining facilities, Nick was interested to get involved again in actually building a refining asset, and so moved back to Bechtel in project management where he acted as project manager on various refining projects, including in Saudi and India.
In 2000, following a spell in India with Reliance to support commissioning of its Jamnagar refinery, Nick moved over to Australia to manage the engineering phase of a new refinery project in Papua New Guinea. He reflects that this was the hardest project with which he had ever been involved, since the capital available was so constrained and required an innovative approach to design and construction.
In 2006, Nick set up the engineering consultancy, now an "LLP" - Palmer International Partnership, which has since grown in stature and capacity to provide “Total Asset Management” to independent players in the refining and petrochemical sector. This service covers profit improvement, focusing on lower-cost “smart” projects, strategic analysis and project implementation.
