How to upgrade your membership
We always welcome applications from existing members to upgrade their membership or add an additional registration (for example, IEng, CEng, CSci or Chartered Energy Manager) at any time. The process is the same for existing members as well as new members.
If you are currently a Graduate or Affiliate member, and have a recommended minimum of 4 years professional experience in the energy sector, your normal upgrade would be to Member MEI. At the same time - or at any time subsequently - you can apply for any of our optional titles as set out on our professional membership web page.
So start the upgrade process today by looking at the options and have your professionalism fully recognised!
If you are currently a student member, and have finished your studies, you should now be in Graduate membership, working your way up to the professional level. There is no process to undergo, just let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will take care of it for you.
Existing professional members - FEI, MEI, TMEI
If you are an existing Member MEI and can demonstrate the necessary levels of seniority and responsibility, then you can apply for an upgrade to Fellow with a shortened application process. Download an application form and guidance notes here
If you are a Technician Member and have moved into a more generalist energy role, you can apply for Member MEI.
Whether you are FEI, MEI or TMEI, you can apply for one or more additional titles as set out on our professional membership web page, according to your qualifications, experience and specialism. These include
- our exclusive Chartered Energy Manager title. Currently there is a fast-track "grandparenting route" available for existing professional members.
- our exclusive Chartered Energy Engineer or Chartered Petroleum Engineer titles. You can apply for one of these at the same time as you apply for CEng though us. If you are already registered as CEng, (whether through the EI or any other licensed body), you can apply for the additional title. So if you are already CEng, then why not add another energy-specific qualification?
We run regular membership webinars throughout the year and we can also visit your company or university to explain how to gain professional or chartered membership. Above all, we want to see you in a membership grade which reflects your expertise and achievements in the energy sector, so if you're not currently a professional member, we will be very pleased to hear from you.
Please email email@example.com and one of our friendly and knowledgable team members will reply to you as soon as possible. We look forward to helping you get the recognition you deserve.
