EI Process Safety Survey (EIPSS)

In conjunction with publication of the EI PSM framework, the EI has developed the EI Process Safety Survey (EIPSS), which is a web-based tool to assist senior executives and managers in the high hazard industries understand how well the significant risks within their organisations are being identified and managed.
Failure to effectively identify and manage these risks could result in a major incident which may threaten people, environment, reputation, financial performance, and even the very future of the organisation.
Is your business vulnerable to a major incident?
Recent incidents have demonstrated that, in addition to the immediate human, environmental and financial costs, there have been:
- escalating effects upon the reputations of companies, their senior executives and the industry as a whole;
- increased scrutiny by the regulators and governments, and
- impacts upon the share prices of the involved companies, causing investors to question the security of their investments in the high hazard industries.
Companies invariably monitor safety performance, often by measuring the time elapsed since the last process safety incident. However, the passing of time without a process safety incident is not necessarily an indication that all is well.
Whilst most well run organisations can tell you how many incidents they had yesterday, the real challenge is to be able to answer the question ‘How likely am I to have an incident-free day tomorrow?’
The two key questions for executives and managers at all levels are:
- How will we do that?
- How will I know we are doing it?
All too often the first two words used to answer these questions are 'I think...'; in reality this means 'I don’t know'!
Recent events have shown that such answers are no longer acceptable and that, from the top down, organisations need to be able to answer these two key questions with confidence. The EIPSS can provide that confidence.
Real time information
Online self-assessment and real-time benchmarking facility based on the elements and expectations of the EI PSM framework.
EIPSS assesses defined arrangements and the effectiveness of their implementation. It provides an opportunity to assess the status of individual elements and expectations.
Results of self-assessments provide the basis for benchmarking of the level of compliance across the survey participants.
Anonymity of the data relating to individual participants.
Benchmarking across multiple sites
Companies with multiple sites can request reports to provide internal benchmarking across their operating locations.
Applicable to any major hazard installations
The EIPSS is not specific to any one industry, and can be used by any major hazard operating site.
Join the EIPSS
You can join the EIPSS and use the tool at any time, and can sign up as an individual site or as a company operating multiple sites.
