1. Organisational change (and transition management)

Any change to the structure, population or distribution of roles and responsibilities of an organisation that may impact safety. Can include one or a combination of:

  • business re-engineering;
  • downsizing;
  • delayering;
  • empowerment;
  • multiskilling;
  • outsourcing/ contractorisation; and
  • mergers, de-mergers and acquisitions.

Can include reduction in resources, competence or motivation to deal with:

  • upsets and crises;
  • emergencies;
  • maintenance; and,
  • Safety Management System.
