There has been an increased focus on assuring the continuing fitness for purpose of existing installations, especially mature installations. Structures, plant equipment or systems, which could either cause, or contribute to, a major accident, need to be effectively managed in order to prevent or limit the effects of failure.
For the upstream petroleum industry, technical development activities are driven by the Asset Life Extension Work Group (ALEWG) and communicated through the Asset Integrity and Life Extension Information Forum (ALEXiNFO http://www.alexinfo.org). In addition, corrosion-specific technical development activities are overseen by the Corrosion Management Committee (CMC).
EI has other installation integrity development activities under the governance of other committees: e.g. those for bulk petroleum storage facilities are governed by the Distribution and Marketing Committee.
