ESOS Certification and Tools

What is ESOS?

The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is a mandatory energy assessment scheme requiring most larger businesses to identify energy reduction measures. Under ESOS, all large companies must undertake an energy audit conducted or overseen by an approved Lead Assessor every four years. The first ESOS deadline was December 2015, and the next is December 2019.

Those on the EI's Register of Professional Energy Consultants (RPEC) are  automatically approved to act as ESOS Lead Assessors on registration. Chartered Energy Managers are also eligible to apply to  join the EI's ESOS Lead Assessor listing.

All Lead Assessors must successfully complete the ESOS online training course within 6 months of acceptance as an ESOS Lead Assessor. To access the programme, click here to complete our online booking form. A processing fee of £50 +VAT will apply.

Please note that this training is designed primarily for those already admitted onto the RPEC register and does not qualify you as an ESOS Lead Assessor on its own. However, anyone wishing to complete the course for informational purposes only is also welcome to enroll.

ESOS Tools

ESOS Toolkit
The EI’s ESOS toolkit is designed for those undertaking audits to comply with ESOS legislation. This toolkit can be used by Lead Assessors working on an in-house or consultancy basis or by others undertaking ESOS work.
