Chris Burgess CEng MEI

Chris has around 30 years’ experience within the energy industry and for the past 15 years as an independent energy consultant. Chris had a number of technical and marketing roles within British Gas and Midlands Electricity over 18 years before establishing Alpha Energy Consultancy in 1998. He has worked with the EI as a tutor for various training courses for a number of years.

Chris specialises in implementing energy management and technical solutions to reduce cost and carbon emissions. He has carried out energy surveys audits and strategic reviews for a wide range of public and private sector organisations and is experienced in identifying and implementing energy efficiency measures based on both capital investment and staff engagement solutions.


Mark Hobbins CEng MEI Chartered Energy Engineer, Registered Energy Consultant

Mark has been involved in the energy industry since 1996 and has been a tutor with the EI for a number of years on numerous courses. He provides professional input for a wide variety of energy and environmental engineering projects, primarily low energy building/industrial design and energy efficiency, for a wide variety of clients. This role includes providing commercial, technical/engineering and project management for a portfolio of commercial buildings.

Mark has also been involved in many renewable projects as well as ‘Energy Centre’ projects like CHP, steam plant and large scale heating. Mark is an active member of the EI, mentoring and interviewing for CEng and MEI as well as being the Honorary Secretary for the Southern Scotland branch.
