Technical Officer – Human Performance
Do you want to play an active role in the energy sector, helping the energy sector to improve how it manages human performance?
We are looking for a highly motivated self-starter who demonstrates initiative, attention to detail and can work with a minimum of supervision. A background in human factors, ergonomics or psychology is essential.

The EI has a world-renowned human factors programme. We have developed a large number of resources to help industry improve safety performance through managing human factors issues. In 2021 we also launched a new Human Performance pathway to help industry develop the skills they need to manage human factors.
What you’ll do:
This role is part of our small, busy, friendly, London-based EI technical team. You will primarily support the delivery and growth of the Human Performance Pathway qualification. You will also support the EI’s Human and Organisational Factors Committee to develop new good practice resources for industry, as well as other aspects of the technical work programme as capacity allows.
Key activities will include overseeing content updates of the Human Performance Pathway, grading students work, working with external trainers, promoting the Human Performance Pathway and liaising with users. You will also provide secretariat support to the Human and Organisational Factors Committee, writing agenda and minutes, and supporting projects through scoping, contracting, and editing good practice guidance documents.
The successful will be have an eye for detail, have a high level of written and verbal English, and proven customer service skills. Because of the subject matter, an interest in human factors and psychology is a must.
The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need:
Candidates must have:
- A degree in a relevant subject, such as:
- Human factors or Ergonomics
- Psychology
- Proficient IT skills, including MS Excel and MS Word
- An ability to learn new software, primarily Moodle
- A desire to learn the subject matter of Human factors
- Clear and confident communicator
- Excellent standard of written English, including ability to write text and emails to a good standard
- Keen attention to detail
- Able to multi-task and organise workload and priorities on several competing projects
- A professional attitude
Salary: £24,000 – £26,000 per annum depending on experience, plus benefits
