The development of energy efficiency expertise in the Middle East by the Energy Institute (EI) and its partners has taken two steps forward.

The EI awarded its first Best Energy Management Initiative Award to the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE). Presented at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group Sustainable Business Leadership Awards 2018, DSCE’s winning entry, the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, demonstrated a clear vision and approach to tackling energy efficiency in the city in the coming decades.

The EI and the Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) have separately signed an agreement to deliver an energy efficiency event in Dubai in October 2018 with ENOC acting as headline sponsor, further strengthening the EI’s capacity to deliver energy efficiency knowledge, competency and good practice in the Middle East region. The event will form part of an expanded international technical forum on health, safety and environment, following the success of the EI’s first Middle East HSE Forum in Dubai last year.

ENOC’s Chief Executive Saif Al Falasi was joined on stage at IP Week 2018 in London by Louise Kingham OBE FEI, Chief Executive of the Energy Institute and His Excellency Eng. Suhail Mohamed Faraj Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy, for the signing.

Louise Kingham commented:

“The Middle East is a vital global energy hub and the EI is committed to strengthening its support of knowledge, skills and good practice in the region.

“I’m delighted that the HSE Forum 2018 will have a clear focus on energy efficiency, which is a vital and often neglected aspect of the energy system.  The forum will provide an opportunity for industry, academia and policy makers to share knowledge on delivering sustainable and safe working practices.

“With this in mind, it’s heartening to see Dubai taking such a clear and decisive approach to incorporating energy efficiency into their strategic vision.”
