Today’s market forces are leading to a departure from a highly centralized power system and a return to smaller scale, localized systems that optimize power demand, consumption, and management.

Microgrids are emerging as one of these decentralizing systems that organisations are considering to meet core strategic objectives such as meeting carbon targets, cost savings, greater penetration of renewable energy and resilience of supply. A microgrid will optimize the energy distribution across a local network and balance the energy flows from the distributed energy resources so that they meet these strategic objectives. The distributed energy resources will likely consist of both generating assets and controllable electrical loads.
This event is in association with the CIBSE-ASHRAE Group.

Speaker:
Dr Duncan Child, Head of Program Management, Schneider Electric will present provide an overview of microgrids, the drivers for this change, where the potential applications for microgrids are and discuss how digitisation of the energy sector is opening up the potential applications for microgrids.
