In conversation with H.E. Dr. Abdul Hussain Bin Ali Mirza, President of the Sustainable Energy Authority, Bahrain.
In 2021 governments will meet for COP26 in the backdrop of a world profoundly changed by the impact of COVID-19.
How can the Middle East, and Bahrain in particular, marry an aggressive economic recovery with measures to promote a low carbon future?
H.E. Mirza will also be presented with Honorary Fellow status of the Energy Institute. Hon FEI is the EI’s highest category of membership, offered only by invitation.
Time: 09:00 GMT |12:00 Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia | 13:00 UAE and Oman
Platform: Webex
Session Summary:
2021 will be a defining year for the battle against climate change. Against the backdrop of a world wracked by the human and economic tragedy of COVID-19, governments meet in November for COP26, hoping to reach consensus on concrete measures to meet the Paris Agreement targets.
In the Middle East, the high exposure to oil and gas prices means that these challenges are further compounded by the low oil price, which adds to the economic pressure facing governments across the region.
From these challenges come opportunities for sustainable growth: to marry an aggressive economic recovery with carbon reduction measures; to use fiscal and financial stimulus, and private investment, to improve efficiency; to reduce waste within the oil and gas industry, and to diversify the energy mix towards low carbon alternatives.
During this webinar, H.E. Dr. Abdul Hussain Bin Ali Mirza, President of the Sustainable Energy Authority, Bahrain will share Bahrain’s sustainability strategy, as well as provide insights into the regional outlook for sustainable energy in the wake of COVID-19 and lower oil prices.
