Dr Fawaz Bitar to join Energy Institute as new CEO

Dr Fawaz (Fuzzy) Bitar, has been appointed Chief Executive of the Energy Institute. The appointment was announced at the EI’s AGM today and he will take up post on 1 January 2027.
Fuzzy is a highly respected global energy leader with more than 35 years of international experience across the energy sector. Most recently Senior Vice President for Health, Safety, Environment & Carbon at bp, he has held major operational and leadership roles around the world and is widely recognised for his expertise in safety, sustainability, organisational transformation and operational excellence.
A Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, former Chair of the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP), and Honorary Professor at the Universities of Aberdeen and Brunel, Fuzzy brings a strong track record of convening people, expertise and organisations to drive meaningful impact.
At a time when the energy sector faces unprecedented change, Fuzzy combines global industry experience with a deep commitment to safety, sustainability and professional development. His leadership will help the Energy Institute continue to convene expertise, develop the energy workforce and provide guidance on the decisions needed for a successful and safe energy transition.
