Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, Chief Executive Officer of Masdar, has been made an Honorary Fellow of the Energy Institute (EI), the UK-based professional body spanning the world of energy, in recognition of his leadership in the fields of renewable energy and clean technologies.

The presentation was made today by the EI’s Vice President, former UK Energy Minister the Rt Hon Prof Charles Hendry CBE HonFEI, in the presence of H.E. Mansoor Abulhoul, UAE Ambassador to the UK, and following Mr Al Ramahi’s speaking appearance at International Energy Week 2023 in London.

Honorary Fellowship is awarded to distinguished individuals judged by the EI Council, chaired by its President Juliet Davenport OBE HonFEI, to have made a positive, distinctive and sustained contribution to the objectives of the Institute – namely the promotion for the public benefit of the science of energy and fuels in all applications and uses.

Mr Hendry said:

“Under Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi’s leadership, as CEO and in other senior leadership positions for the past fifteen years, Masdar has become a global clean energy giant, with multi-billion dollar investments spread across forty countries. In addition, he is active in myriad sustainability and clean energy initiatives in the Emirates and globally.

“As we face the realities of the climate crisis, and look to the UAE’s vital leadership at COP28 this year, I am delighted to welcome Mr Al Ramahi into the EI Fellowship. He exemplifies our Institute’s goal of creating a better energy future for society and I look forward to his contributions to our work accelerating a just energy transition in the Middle East and globally.”

H.E. Mansoor Abulhoul said:

“I am proud that the Energy Institute has recognised the UAE’s leadership in the global energy sector through the awarding of Honorary Fellowship to Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi. Masdar has been at the forefront of the energy transition globally, and its strong presence in the UK reflects the close partnership that our two countries share when it comes to clean energy cooperation.”

Mr Al Ramahi said:

“I am truly honoured to accept Honorary Fellowship of the Energy Institute, the pre-eminent global professional body for the energy sector. This prestigious award is a reflection of the UAE’s long-standing commitment to clean energy and climate action, as well as the important role that Masdar is playing in the energy transition as a global clean energy powerhouse.

“It is fitting to accept this great honour on the side-lines of International Energy Week in the UK, a key strategic market for Masdar where we have already invested in world-class clean energy projects valued at £4 billion. We are also targeting an additional investment of close to £1 billion in battery storage projects located across the UK as part of the UAE-UK Sovereign Investment Partnership and Masdar’s own growth targets – one of the largest investment programmes in energy storage worldwide.

“As we look ahead to COP28 in the UAE later this year, Masdar will continue to accelerate the deployment of clean energy around the world to help drive a successful energy transition.”
