This 2 half-day training course will help you to understand the aspects involved in managing physical assets to develop and maintain your own strategic asset management plan. You will gain an appreciation of the structured approach required to effectively support the organisational objectives and deliver a sustainable return on investment.

Learn about the asset life cycle by identifying the structures needed, the importance of people and the organisation based on the recognised standard ISO 55001, best practices and our experiences.

You will also gain an understanding through practical exercises about concepts such as the phases of the asset lifecycle, Life Cycle Costing (LCC) and maintenance plans.

Matthew Laskaj is an engineer and specialist engineering trainer. He is passionate about the engineering industry and developing skills. Having worked in offshore Oil and Gas, refineries, energy, manufacturing and process industries around the world, he considers himself lucky to be able to share his experience with others while learning at the same time from those he meets along the way.

He is the Director of Project Engineering Management Ltd, an engineering consultancy offering maintenance training, project management and engineering consultancy.


Learning Objectives:

1. Recognise the importance of developing a strategy, policies and plan to manage physical assets and learn how to develop your own strategic asset management plans
2. Understand the phases of the asset life cycle including development, implementation, operate, maintain and decommission and their importance to improving asset performance
3. Carry out simple economic Life Cycle Costing
4. Gain knowledge and tools to manage and improve culture, skills and competency within the organisation
5. Understand the process and requirements of gaining accreditation in ISO55001

The course is suitable for engineering, asset management, maintenance and reliability personnel and those working within or managing manufacturing, industrial, mining, oil and gas and energy sectors with responsibility for the application and improvement of physical asset performance, safety and budgets.

2. Asset Life Cycle
a. Understand the asset life cycle and why asset management is important
b. Support and manage assets throughout their life cycle

a. Identify the scope of asset management and the decisions that need to be made relating to policy, strategy and the plan.
4. Economics
a. Calculate the ‘simple payback time’ (SPT)
b. Explain the meaning of the ‘net present value’ (NPV)
5. Structure and Processes
a. Acquisition, development and implementation
b. Operation
c. Maintenance
d. Decommissioning – remove or repower
6. Skills and Culture
a. Investigate the skills required to manage and improve your asset performance.
b. Recognise and address cultural issues associated with the process.
