ISO 50001 supports organizations in all sectors to use energy more efficiently, through the development of an energy management system. Having under gone a recent review to ensure the standard meets the needs of an ever changing energy industry, the updated ISO 50001 will be available this year.

Deann Desai, Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology and Convenor of the working group was tasked with revising the standard. She says:

“Perhaps the most important change for the 2018 version is the incorporation of the high-level structure, which provides for improved compatibility with other management system standards. Because organizations often implement a number of management system standards, the use of a shared structure, as well as many of the same terms and definitions, helps to keep things simple,”

This evening lecture will hear from both Judith Turner, LRQA and Dr Andrew Geens, CIBSE.

Judith works for LRQA and represents the IIOCs liaison relationship to ISO TC 301 ‘Energy Management’, and was also in attendance to the working group meetings in ISO.

She will offer:

  • a general overview of the Standard and the changes
  • discuss from a Certification Body’s point of view and perhaps talk about the transition timelines for certification

Dr Andrew Geens, Head of CIBSE Certification, Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers will present a case study based upon the implantation of ISO 5001 at Kingspan Insulation

Although not a large organisation they have implemented ISO 50001 across parts of their organisation. The presentation will demonstrate how the standard works across multiple sites as well as examining the pros can cons of ISO 50001 and audits.
