Overview:

Aviation fuel hydrant systems at airports are the penultimate step in the delivery chain of aviation fuel to aircraft. It is therefore imperative to ensure that the quality and cleanliness of the jet fuel in the hydrant is maintained at all times.

Operational experience indicates that, provided the hydrant concept design (architecture) is correct, following good hydrant system design, 'clean-build' techniques during construction and robust commissioning procedures, the operation, inspection and maintenance tasks outlined in this publication will ensure safe and reliable hydrant system operation, and that fuel quality is maintained.

This publication has been written primarily for owners and operators of hydrant systems. It also provides information that hydrant system designers should take into account.

The information contained in this publication is considered to be generally applicable to hydrant systems in use at larger commercial airports worldwide.

This second edition has been extensively updated throughout and includes new material relating to natural disasters as well as a new section providing recommendations for hydrant systems that experience full or partial shutdown for an extended period. It also incorporates and supersedes the material that was formerly published as EI 1585 Guidance in the cleaning of aviation fuel hydrant systems at airports, which has now been withdrawn.

This publication includes a free A3 annual planner pull-out which is available free-of-charge as a separate PDF on request.

Our Aviation Jet Fuel Training applies this good practice guidance to give teams hands-on skills for safe, compliant jet fuel operations. Learn more and register here: http://www.energy-inst.org/jetfuelcourse
