3554 Good plant design and operation for onshore and offshore carbon capture installations and pipelines

Overview:

This publication is an update to the Good plant design and operation for onshore carbon capture installations and onshore pipelines published in 2010.

The original Good Plant design guide was developed together with two documents on hazard analysis, the Technical guidance on hazard analysis for onshore carbon capture installations and onshore pipelines and the Hazard analysis for offshore carbon capture platforms and offshore pipelines document.

A decade after their publication, recognising both increased interest in CO₂ capture and storage and the work that has been undertaken in the meantime, the opportunity was taken to restructure the documents. This document provides guidance on the various elements of the CCUS chain (omitting geological storage) and gives assistance what is currently perceived as good practice in design and operation.

With the Hazard Analysis for onshore and offshore carbon capture installations and pipelines (2^nd ed.), a complementary guidance document is available focussing on the hazards associated with CO₂, including approaches to ensuring that hazards for onshore and offshore carbon capture installations and pipelines are appropriately identified, quantified, and mitigated.
