Development of this publication was commissioned by the Energy Institute (EI) as part of its STAC technical programme. It has the following objectives:

To compile technical guidance and information on ageing and life extension topics.
Identify topics for development of new technical guidance and information.

The report is primarily aimed at the upstream offshore oil and gas sector, where it is recognised that a significant proportion (around 50 %) of the facilities in the UK sector are already operating beyond their original design life. It is also relevant to the downstream sector and other industry sectors with high hazard installations.
