Overview:
The transition to a more sustainable energy system presents both opportunities and risks for industries operating in the North Sea. As expectations around biodiversity enhancement and nature-positive outcomes continue to grow, there is increasing recognition that achieving meaningful marine net gain and net positive impact will require collaboration across sectors, disciplines and organisations.
To support this dialogue, the Energy Institute’s Environment and Sustainability Committee brought together representatives from industry, government, regulators, academia and environmental organisations to share experiences, discuss challenges and explore opportunities for collective action. The workshop highlighted the value of cross-sector engagement in addressing common barriers and identifying practical pathways towards improved marine biodiversity outcomes.
EI 3636 Technical workshop proceedings – Advancing marine net gain/net positive impact in the North Sea: current practices, future research and collaborative opportunities capture the key themes, insights and opportunities that emerged from the discussions and are intended to support continued collaboration and future research and guidance across the North Sea energy sector.
PowerPoint slides for each presentation are included as supplementary material (EI 3636-1) and may be downloaded following the purchase of EI 3636 from the My Pubs section of the website.
