3630 Automotive diesel fuel filter blocking – causes and controls

Overview:

This report, authored by the British Standards Institution (BSI) Filter Blocking Task Force and published by the Energy Institute, looks at the incidents of diesel fuel filter blocking during cold periods from 2011 to 2020, and the temporary requirements that were put in place. The report discusses topics including automotive fuel filter system designs, FAME quality, diesel fuel solvency, cold flow additives, the filter blocking tests (FBT), IP 387, the cold FBT (IP 618), and recommendations of the BSI task force.  The report concludes with a recommendation for future work.
