Overview:
This Standard specifies a method for the determination of the existent gum content of aviation turbine fuel and includes procedures for using either air or steam as the vaporizing medium.
Note 1: The gum content of aviation gasoline, motor gasoline, and other volatile distillates may be determined using the procedure described in IP 131.
Note 2: Large quantities of gum indicate contamination of fuel by higher‑boiling oils or particulate matter and generally reflect poor handling practices in distribution downstream of the refinery.
