Chartered Environmentalist

Chartered Environmentalists are professionals concerned with the environmental impacts and implications of plans, strategies and actions. They work to mitigate and solve environmental challenges in energy, and to promote sustainability, and can be involved in a range of sectors, leading teams and departments, advising government or working as hands on practitioners. They use their specialist knowledge and broader environmental understanding to apply sustainable thinking throughout their daily working life.

Fees

There is an application fee of £85, plus an initial registration fee from the Society for the Environment if you are awarded CEnv. Once you are registered, you will also need to pay a Society for the Environment annual registration fee, which we will collect from you on their behalf. See our fees page for more information.

How to apply?

Becoming an Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) through the Energy Institute requires holding professional membership as either a Member (MEI) or Fellow (FEI).

Who is it for?

For professionals who have a proven track record in analysing and evaluating problems from an environmental perspective in energy and developing practical, more sustainable solutions. Though you don’t have to have a Masters’ level qualification, you will need to demonstrate master’s level thinking - that you have a high level of knowledge and expertise and the know how to apply it. There is more information in the application pack.

We are looking for committed energy professionals, and so we ask you to join the EI as an Associate Member before you apply for Chartered Environmentalist – it means that you’ll get the benefits of membership right away and that we can support you on your journey towards your professional qualification.

Updated Competences

The Registration Authority (RA) is responsible for the developing , maintaining definitions and standards for admission to the Registers and setting standards for the award of the professional designations, have recently updated the competencies Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) need to demonstrate in order to be awarded the title. Which come in effect as of Monday, 18 December 2023.

Application for Chartered Environmentalist submitted after this date, will need to apply submit an application with our updated competencies.
