3379 EI Research report: Electrostatic and flammability testing of aviation fuelling hose accessories

Overview:

The information contained in this publication will be of interest to manufacturers of aviation fuelling hose accessories, vehicle manufacturers, into-plane service providers, aviation fuel suppliers and airlines.

Although it is anticipated that this publication will assist those involved in aircraft fuelling, the information contained in this publication is provided as guidance only.

This publication provides the findings of two studies that were commissioned by the Energy Institute's Aviation Committee in support of the development of a new standard, EI 1522 Minimum requirements for aviation fuelling hose accessories.

Evidence was specifically sought on whether the existing hose accessories meet the flammability test requirement of ISO 1825 and whether they introduce any risk of electrostatic charge generation.

Accessories included in the scope of the two studies were all commercially available:

• spiral coils;
• wraps;
• beads;
• collars;
• sleeves, and
• covers.
