Overview:
This document supersedes the previous Guidelines for the identification and management of environmentally critical elements, which allowed operators to develop a practical approach to major hazards to the environment. This revised document provides a list of key points to ensure regulatory expectations are met and risks are recognised and addressed but is not prescriptive, thus allowing for individual company approaches.
The guidance provides the user with clear, justifiable and demonstrable approaches (not necessarily including performance standards or verification) to:
− environmental pollution potential identification;
− barrier identification;
− assigning appropriate maintenance tasks and frequency;
− prioritisation of that maintenance, and
− conducting assurance activity.
