Overview:
Scope
This standard specifies a procedure for the determination of copper at levels of 5 ug/kg to 220 ug/kg in aviation turbine fuels using graphite furnace (flameless) atomic absorption spectrometry.
NOTE 1 - Very low concentrations of copper (in excess of 50 ug/kg) can accelerate the oxidation of aviation turbine fuels at high temperatures, and thus increase the insoluble deposits that are detrimental to aviation propulsion systems. Delivery systems for aviation turbine fuels, particularly on board ship, frequently contain copper alloys which may be subject to attack and dissolution. This method may be used to monitor copper contents through the distribution chain.
