This document provides a review of relevant codes, standards, guidance and techniques for performing inspections and managing the integrity of pipework at onshore bulk liquid storage and distribution terminals, in order to support the EI in identifying gaps where further guidance may be of use to operators.

Whilst this literature review intends to cover all pipework that may be present at onshore terminals, particular attention has been given to techniques and guidance available to inspect and assess fitness-for-service of buried, non-piggable pipework.

The document applies to pipework at onshore terminals within the limits of the terminal boundaries. This includes pipework associated with jetties and vapour recovery unit (VRU) pipework, where present.

Items which are integral to the pipe or form part of the primary containment boundary, e.g. flange assemblies and supports integrally welded to the pipework and cathodic protection systems are included in the scope.

This document excludes the sections of pipelines extending beyond the site boundary, which are usually inspected and maintained in a separate scope from on-site equipment. In-line mechanical items, such as pumps and valves, are also excluded.
